Vaccination is one of the most potent ‘weapons’ we have to protect ourselves against the consequences of infections. Diseases cause suffering and in some cases permanent disability or death. Just as we would choose to carry an umbrella in case it rains, or to use sunscreen, most people are immunised against vaccine-preventable diseases.
