Dr Janet E. McElhaney is Professor of Medicine and Allan M. McGavin Chair in Geriatrics Research.
Her research includes the immune response to vaccination, biomarkers of “inflammaging” and its impact on health, and vaccine preventable disability in older adults. She leads the “Vaccine Initiative to Add Life to Years” (VITALiTY) to identify risk factors for catastrophic disability, explore the contribution of “inflammaging”, and design new vaccines and therapeutics to promote independence and prevent disability in older people.
Her research is supported by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, National Institutes of Health, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and the BC Lung Association.
