Tens of millions of COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in low- and middle-income countries through the COVAX programme managed by the WHO, CEPI and GAVI. However, there is a long way to go before the target of 2 billion doses is met.

With donations from developed countries, COVAX is working with vaccine manufacturers to provide enough vaccines to ensure 20% of those most at risk are protected. This is estimated to be enough to vaccinate healthcare workers and other high-risk groups, allowing societies to begin to return to normal and going some way to addressing concerns about vaccine equity.
