What-are-the-complications-of-measlesMeasles is sometimes viewed as a mild childhood illness. But, while most children make a full recovery, the disease can be fatal.

In this video, Dr Dina Pfeifer, World Health Organisation (European Region), discusses the complications of measles infections in children.

She notes that one case of encephalitis occurs for every 1,000 children who are infected with measles. On top of this, children can suffer inner ear infections, respiratory infections, pneumonia and diarrhoea, which can result in hospitalisation.
