There’s no shortage of jargon when it comes to discuss issues around vaccination, so we’ve compiled a list explaining commonly terms to help demystify the subject.

Immune system

The body’s system for protecting it against disease by identifying and killing pathogens.

Immunogen

A type of antigen capable of provoking an adapative immune respect if injected on its own.

Immunology

The study of the immune system

Inactivated vaccine

A vaccine featuring virus particles which are grown in culture and then killed using a method such as heat or formaldehyde.

Incidence

The number of new individuals who contract a disease during a particular period of time. (Not to be confused with prevalence.)
